|FREEDOM FROM CAPTIVITY|
DELIVERED BUT NOT FREE
It is one thing to be delivered and a totally different thing to be made free. There is no form of bondage as imprisoning as internal or mental bondage. One can walk out of prison after serving his/her jail term and yet the imprisonment of his mind is not broken for a lifetime. It is sad to say that many walk out of prison as free men but the prison never walked out of them.
'For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains'. Nelson Mandela
Freedom is more internal than external. Until what we walk away from, walks out of us, we are not free yet. The Israelites had served in Egypt as slaves for over 400 years. Moses, their deliverer, did a great job when he caused them to walk out of Egypt. Moses, however, had the shock of his life when he discovered that the people were willing and ready to offer anything to go back into their land of slavery.
Whatsoever any Freedom Fighter does for you is to give you an incentive to begin to pursue your own personal freedom.²⁸ Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. ²⁹ Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. ³⁰ For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11 (KJV) (Emphasis added)
Jesus promises rest to those who come to Him then He quickly adds that there is a dimension of rest that YOU must find through learning- that is internal or mental freedom.
Again Jesus addresses those who believed Him and had received the first dimension of rest from Him that there is another dimension of rest that is only available to those who make time to study the scriptures. Such people will come to discover the truth, which has the power to make them free. Jesus is saying in effect that, 'I have delivered you out of the kingdom of darkness. I have delivered you out of the will. But I have not delivered the world out of you. The world is still you.'
This next-level rest dimension of freedom is available for all but only accessible through a studious life. Even though you have been delivered out of a kingdom of darkness, it would take a studious life to be free.
It is not enough to believe in Jesus Christ. It is not enough to be born again. It is not enough to submit your life to Jesus after you are born again. After you are saved, you need to study. After you are saved, you need to sit down and study the word until it becomes your daily habits.
Romans Chapter 12 quickly adds that you should transform yourself. Self-transformation is freedom through knowledge- knowledge of the truth.
If you have not given your life to Jesus Christ, let me encourage you that you take this opportunity and submit your life to Jesus. Prayer this prayer: Jesus. I'm a sinner. I come to you because you are the only one appointed for the salvation of the souls of men. Save me and deliver me from the Kingdom of Darkness. Right my name in the Book of Life. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
You have been delivered and the next thing you ought to do is to stay with the word of God. May the Holy Spirit keep you in His word. In Jesus' name. Amen.
