It is very risky to remain an ignorant child of God. It might be more ‘comforting’ to remain in darkness than to remain an ignorant saint. There is a greater need for us to go back to the study of the Word for ourselves, not for the sake of engaging in fruitless and unproductive arguments but to be enabled to live an impact life.

What does it really mean to be born again? If you like, this is the most common question I ask in my outreaches. Any time I get ‘Yes’ as an answer, I follow up with the question, ‘When?’ The responses to this question are very interesting. ‘Oh, from my childhood’, ‘I have been baptised’, ‘I have been confirmed’, ‘I go to church’. The facial expressions that usually accompany these responses are those of confusion, shock, anger or frustration. I hear them quietly shouting: ‘What do you mean by have I been born again?’ If you will permit me to ask you, ‘Are you born again?

You may look at the issue of birth from two perspectives: the mother (the giving birth) and the child (the one being born). From the mum’s angle of view, to give birth is to bring into existence, bring out life in its youngest form or bring into life by the process of birth. From the child’s view, however, considering the fact that this child existed in the mum’s womb for nine months earlier, it means, to be brought into existence into a new state of life.

Before you were born physically, you existed in some form, somewhere – in mummy’s womb. When you broke forth and came out of your mother’s womb, it wasn’t a continuation of the life you lived in the womb, else you should have celebrated your first anniversary on the third month since you’d already done nine months in the womb. The number of months you spent in the womb is not considered in your birthdays. Again, you were living in water (Amniotic fluid) in the amniotic sac but after birth, you came to live on land. Your life after birth is completely different from the one in the womb.

What did Jesus mean when he said to Nicodemus, ‘You must be born again?’

John 3:3- 7 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus said unto him, how can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, you must be born again.

Nobody in his/her right mind doubts or questions his or her birth. We know we have been born because we exist. But have you been born AGAIN? Born for the second time? Yes. There is such a thing as born again. The first birth was done by your parents, but the second birth will be done by God.

John 1:13 ‘Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God’.

Just as a child who is born leaves the womb realm into this physical world, to be born again or born of God is to ‘move out’ of this world and ‘entre into’ the kingdom of God or rather, entering into a vibrant and personal relationship and fellowship with the Father God through Jesus Christ.

In my next blog I AM BORN AGAIN II, I shall be dealing with ‘WHY’ because Jesus said YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN.

If you are reading this post and you have not yet been born again or born of God or have no personal and vibrant relationship and fellowship with God but would like to, please pray this prayer out now:

‘Lord Jesus, I come to you today. I am a sinner, I cannot help myself. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with your precious blood. Deliver me from sin and Satan, to serve the living God. Today, Lord Jesus, I accept you as my Lord and my Saviour. Thank you for saving me! Now I know, I am born again!’

If you have prayed this prayer in faith, you are born again, saved, a child of God.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name

1 John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

If you will spend the rest of your days listening and speaking with him by studying the Bible and praying, then your friendship with Christ shall become permanent and intimate.

Let me also encourage you to start reading the bible for yourself. Start by patiently reading the 21 chapters Gospel of John.
