In my previous post SONS OF GOD II, we focused on Adam the son of God. Luke 3:38 declared Adam as the son of God in the sense that he was created by God, had a personal and special relationship with God, and ultimately, was made in the image and likeness of God. In this post, we shall be looking at Jesus Himself as the Son of God.

“And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased”. Matthew 3:17

In all my years of writing, there hasn’t been any subject so hard for me to write about like writing about JESUS CHRIST. I find the human language too inadequate to express Him fully in writing. Jesus is so vast that I can’t see how my little mind can pretend to have grasped enough of Him to fully write about I always ended up just gazing at Him in awe and forgot about writing completely. As hard as I’ll try, it is an experiential knowledge that you should pursue.

Jesus is the most interesting person in both time and eternity. Any sincere seeker of truth will always find Jesus but for those who are victims of religion (which is indeed nothing but a human creation in seeking for God) will think they hate Him when in reality it’s because they have not encountered Him.

Jesus is many things to many different people: Healer, Teacher, Saviour, Provider, King etc. And truly, He answers to these names and more since they are functions He carries out toward what the needs of the seekers might be. But as the Son of God, it reveals the connectivity He has with the Father.

It is of no wonder therefore that among all the identities Jesus bore, Satan was fearfully interested only in whether He was the Son of God at that point.

“And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterwards an hungered. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands, they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone”. Matthew 4:2-6

Angels are sons of God in their right because they owe their existence to God. Note that it was after the failed attempted coup d'├ętat in heaven that Adam (humankind) was created.

Adam was the son of God also in his own right. The actual man was a spirit just like angels. But this spirit was in the very image and likeness of God. Secondly, this spirit (man) was placed into a physical body made from the earth. This earthly body functions by bodily fluids like the blood which angels don’t have. In fact, the earthly body man inherited came with several other things like respiration, reproduction, excretion and other functions not available to angels since they have no earthly physical body.

It was upon the failure of Adam to hold himself up to fulfil God’s plan to have more children that He announced an ultimate plan to redeem man unto Himself.

“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel”. Genesis 3:15

Jesus is the Son of God.

The third category of personalities referred to as Sons of God is Jesus Christ, the ultimate Son of God. When angels are referred to as sons of God, the question of the whereabouts of their mother never arise. Similarly, nobody questions with which woman God gave birth to Adam.

The following scriptures show that before Jesus came into this world, He existed in the heavenly realms. Anyone who misses this aspect of Jesus will always doubt the divinity of Jesus.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth”. John 1:1-2, 14

The Word which was made flesh and dwelt with us was at the beginning of time with God and was God.

Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” John 8:58
Now, Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was. John 17:5
Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. John 17:24
He is before all things, and in Him, all things hold together. Colossians 1:17
Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, he remains a priest perpetually. Hebrews 7:3
I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” Revelation 22:13
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. Colossians 1:15
What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word of Life— and the life was manifested, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to us 1 John 1:1-2
John *testified about Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.’” John 1:15
When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. And He placed His right hand on me, saying, “Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last, and the living One, and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades. Revelation 1:17-18
“And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write: The first and the last, who was dead, and has come to life, says this:” Revelation 2:8
“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse, and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God”. Revelation 19:11-13

Note the detailed description of this personality, his name is The Word of God. This personality can be no other than Jesus Christ. It is only a personal encounter with Him that will make all that you know about Him count.

If your knowledge of Him is in the realm of intellectual only, I humbly invite you to Please pray this prayer out now:

‘Lord Jesus, I come to you today. I am a sinner, I cannot help myself. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with your precious blood. Deliver me from sin and Satan, to serve the living God. Today, Lord Jesus, I accept you as my Lord and my Saviour. Thank you for saving me! Now I know, I am born again!’

If you have prayed this prayer in faith, you are born again, saved, a child of God.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he the power to become the sons of God, even to them, that believe on his name

1John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. As simple as it may seem to you, you are saved or born again by this prayer of faith. You have been restored to sonship. Get a bible if you don’t have one yet and start reading it for yourself. May the Holy Spirit also be your guide.
